Welcome to West Greenwich, Rhode Island

 

West Greenwich is a beautiful rural town located in Kent County, R.I.  It spreads across 51 square miles. It is bordered by Coventry, East Greenwich, Exeter and Connecticut. The population is approximately 6500 residents and it is named for the historic town of Greenwich, Kent, England. It was separated from East Greenwich in 1741. Students go to Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School in West Greenwich.

The town has many things to do and see especially in the great outdoors! It has conserved over 40% of its land to provide many activities to keep you busy. Some of these include:

Stepping Stone Falls, which has great trails for walking and hiking.  With a beautiful river and unusual rock formations it provides an ideal family hike.

Arcadia Management Area, open year-round. Great for hiking, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, fishing, and mountain biking. It’s the location of the Tomaquag Museum, a Hatchery, Browning Mill and Beach Pond.

Wickaboxet Management Area, contains 678 acres of forests and wetlands.  It’s a great place to view wildlife and bird-watch. Hiking trails are available and hunting is allowed.

Historical Cemeteries. West Greenwich is home to over 100 historical cemeteries. Some of these cemeteries have tombstones dating back as early as the 1700s.

Mishnock Barn (Country Dancing), best country western dancing lessons in Rhode Island. There are three large floating dance floors. Lessons are available.

Stepping Stone Ranch, offers horseback riding lessons and trail rides for riders of any experience level.

Big River Management Area, sprawling over 8,319 acres, this vastly forested territory is also home to wetlands and several large rivers. It is an ideal location for wildlife viewing and bird-watching. A hiking trail and bird-watching trail are both available. Hunting and mountain biking are allowed.

Tillinghast Pond Management Area contains various trails, a historical cemetery, and a variety of animals and plants spread across 1,800 acres. Public fishing areas and a canoe launch are available.

West Greenwich provides great rural living and it is is centrally located in the state. It also provides easy access to Providence and/or the nearby South County beaches.
